Ray Gallagher BMus(Hons)
My interest in music started when I was 8 years old learning recorder, guitar and singing in the local church choir.
Singing in the choir is the only one of the three that lasted any length of time, so perhaps it is no surprise that teaching singing is now my vocation.
Later, when I started secondary school I began lessons on piano and trumpet, then later trombone. And then, at the age of 15 I started having Organ lessons. By this stage I felt he had quite enough instruments under my belt, and have somehow managed to restrain myself from seriously pursueing any others, although I do admit to "dabbling" with a wide variety of instruments over the years! (I secretly yearn to be a drummer, if only there was space in his house for a large drum kit!)
Then followed studies in Music at the University of Hull, from where I graduated in 1996 with a 2:1 honours degree.
My musical interests are vast and my experiences cover everything from singing in madrigal and plainsong groups, to playing keyboards, bass guitar and singing in bands. There is no music that I really dislike, its just that my passions in some areas are stronger than others!
I have many years experience of directing orchestras and choirs, as well as performing on piano, organ and trombone. I was Musical Director of the Hull Philharmonic Youth Orchestra for over 10 years, and am currently involved with many different groups.
My current roles include:-
Musical Theatre Tutor - Rotherham College
Director of Music - Whiston Parish Church
Musical Director - Thurcroft Theatre Group
Musical Director - Handsworth and Hallam Theatre Company
Musical Director - Doncaster Wheatsheaf Singers
